Wearing out the shoes

"When you have worn out your shoes, the strength of the shoe leather has passed into the fiber of your body. I measure your health by the number of shoes and hats and clothes you have worn out." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson.

I love Ralph Waldo Emerson and I love this quote about the strength of the shoe leather passing through the fiber of your body.  However, I might have to agree with a friend - I thought if the shoe didn't wear out it was a really good shoe.

So anyhow, I gave it my best. I slipped on my tennis shoes after work and for thirty minutes I strutted across the backside of a treadmill.  I'm not sure I passed any strength from the sole of my shoes into my body but I certainly did plenty of sweating!
